Kenya company making pencils through recycling old newspapers

At Momo pencils factory which is said to be the only Kenya company producing pencils locally, old newspapers are taken through several processes to produce funky, water-resistant pencils that they say last longer than ordinary pencils. The eco-friendly alternative pencils are sold to schools, government agencies, corporate firms and through several retailers. According to the company director Mahamud Omari, by using recycled newspapers they are helping protect the environment by reducing littering and the number of trees being cut to produce wooden pencils. Despite of advent of technology, pencils remain to be highly produced with an estimated annual global consumption of about 14 billion. EPA/DANIEK IRUNGU
