CKD's nutraceutical product output to jump more than 4-fold with new factory (종근당건강 1300억 투자..당진에 최대 유산균 공장)

종근당건강이 충남 당진에 국내 최대 규모의 건강기능식품 공장을 준공했다. 종근당건강은 이번 준공으로 연간 생산능력이 기존 2500억원 규모에서 1조원 이상으로 확대될 것으로 내다보고 있다.

Chong Kun Dang (CKD) Healthcare has completed its new factory in Dangjin, Chungnam Province, the largest production facility for functional foods and dietary supplements in Korea that is expected to help the company more than quadruple its annual production capacity currently valued at 250 billion won ($205 million).

23일 종근당에 따르면 종근당건강은 약 1300억원을 투자해 6만3935㎡(약 1만9400평) 용지에 연면적 4만1119㎡(약 1만2500평) 규모로 당진 신공장을 건설했다. 이 공장은 국내 최대 유산균 전용 생산라인과 최첨단 연질캡슐 제조라인, 홍삼과 같은 액상제품 자동화 생산라인 등 최신 설비와 모니터링 시스템을 갖춘 스마트 공장이다.

The company on Wednesday announced it has completed the construction of a 41,000-square meter factory equipped with automatic production, storage, and logistics systems to roll out lactic acid bacteria products, soft capsules, and red ginseng extracts, among others. It invested about 130 billion won in building it.

종근당건강은 이번 준공으로 연간 생산능력이 기존 2500억원 규모에서 1조원 이상으로 확대될 것으로 내다보고 있다. 이를 통해 건강기능식품 시장에서 독보적인 품질과 가격 경쟁력을 확보하고 해외 시장 개척에 속도를 높여나간다는 전략이다.

The company said it aims to speed up overseas market development based on unrivaled quality and price advantages with the new facility that will more than quadruple its annual production capacity to more than 1 trillion won.

김호곤 종근당건강 대표는 "당진 신공장 준공으로 '락토핏' '프로메가' '아이클리어' 등 최근 급증하는 주요 품목들 수요에 적절히 대응해 건강한 삶에 대한 소비자 수요를 맞춰나갈 것"이라며 "더욱 차별화된 제품으로 경쟁력을 강화해 중국, 동남아시아 등을 시작으로 세계 시장을 적극 공략해 나가겠다"고 말했다.

The new factory is designed to meet the growing needs of the global market for key nutraceuticals such as Lacto-Fit, Promega, and Eye Clear, the company's chief executive Kim Hogon said. “We will strengthen our competitiveness and position with more differentiated products to advance into the global market, starting with China and Southeast Asia.”

종근당건강은 2019년 중국 칭다오와 상하이에 각각 현지법인과 지사를 설립하고 락토핏과 화장품 등을 출시한 바 있다.

CKD Healthcare established local operations in Qingdao and Shanghai, China, in 2019 to launch its Lacto-Fit and cosmetics products.

한국건강기능식품협회에 따르면 지난해 프로바이오틱스 시장 규모는 8420억원 수준으로 4년 만에 2배 가까이 성장했다. 프로바이오틱스 시장은 종근당건강이 출시한 락토핏이 주도하고 있다. 락토핏 매출은 2017년 393억원에서 2020년 2620억원으로 증가했다.

The Korean probiotics market was valued at 842 billion won last year, nearly doubled in four years, according to industry data from Korea Health Supplements Association (KHSA). CKD Healthcare's Lacto-Fit has been a leader in the local probiotics market with sales jumping from 39.3 billion won in 2017 to 262 billion won in 2020.
