Hyundai Motor unveils new design of third-gen Genesis G80

Hyundai Motor Co.’s luxury marquee Genesis’s full-sized sedan has a new look.

According to the teaser released on the makeover of the sedan G80, the third-generation model comes with the Crest Grille and double-line Quadlamps, the signature design elements of the brand that were also applied to the newly-released upscale SUV GV80 under the design concept dubbed ‘Athletic Elegance’.

“The Quadlamps and Athletic Elegance design language present a distinctive brand identity,” said Lee Sang-yup, senior vice president and head of Genesis Design, in a statement, adding that “this will enable Genesis to offer a fresh alternative within the existing luxury space.

"The Genesis design DNA begins from the logo itself," said Luc Donckerwolke, executive vice president and chief design officer of Hyundai Motor. "The crest of the logo becomes the Crest Grille and the two lines of the wings become the Quadlamps.

The all-new G80 features coupe-shaped design with the roof dipping slightly, but the rear seat boasts spacious head room. In order to evoke the elegant image of classic cars, it features a long Parabolic Line that begins at the front fender and flows down gracefully to the rear.

The 20-inch wheel and the front and rear fenders emphasize dynamic styling. The trunk release button at the rear end and surrounding chrome garnish mimics the shape of the Genesis logo.

The dashboard has a 14.5-inch infotainment screen and the slim air vent visually stretches the width of the cabin, the company said. The interior design aimed at achieving “the perfect balance between personal space and state-of-the-art technology,” said Lee.
