LG Display certified to carry out own safety tests on OLED

LG Display Co. said Tuesday it has received a certificate from TUV SUD, a German industrial testing and certification organization, to carry out its own safety tests for OLED lighting solutions.

The South Korean display manufacturer, which is a leader in OLED technology, said it marked the first time in the world for a manufacturer’s testing facility to win the certificate and this will significantly reduce the time and budget needed to win safety approvals for its OLED lighting products.

The evaluation on LG Display’s safety testing facilities was based on 10 criteria, including internal short circuits, fault conditions and thermal stress tests, LG Display said.

LG Display now expects to deliver thoroughly safety-tested OLED lighting solutions to customers in a faster and more efficient way.

LG Display said its OLED lighting panels consume less power and generate less heat compared with previous solutions. Lightweight and near nature light profiles make them ideal for use in building interiors and car taillights.

LG Display won a certificate for eco-friendly TV displays from European inspection organization SGS last year.
