Crowdsourcing translation company Flitto to supply language data to Tencent

Flitto, a South Korean crowdsourcing translation platform operator, announced on Tuesday it has signed a contract to provide its language data to Tencent, China’s largest social media company.

Flitto’s language data will be used to train Tencent’s artificial intelligence-powered machine translation programs.

Tencent launched its own machine translator dubbed Mr. Translator-Interpreter & Dictionary in 2016 and daily translation requests recently hit 200 million cases.

Under the agreement, Flitto will send translation and tailored data to Tencent on a monthly basis. Flitto’s crowdsourcing translation system and Tencent’s translator application programming interface (API) will go in sync next year to improve the company’s machine translation output, Flitto said. Flitto will also perform various translation projects for Tencent.

Flitto said the agreement represents the recognition of Flitto’s translation technology by China’s largest mobile enterprise and interdependent technology advancement is expected on the partnership.
