(파리 2011년 9월 8일 AsiaNet=연합뉴스) 예술가이자 TED상 수상자인 JR이 자신의 Inside Out Project의 일환인 Time is Now, Yalla!를 오늘 공개했다. Inside Out Project는 전 세계 사람들이 지역의 벽과 거리에 거대한 흑백 인물사진을 붙임으로써 자신의 신념을 표현하는 프로젝트이다.

Time is Now, Yalla!는 현재 이스라엘(텔아비브)과 팔레스타인(베들레헴 및 라말라)에서 진행 중이다. JR과 그가 이끄는 팀은 세 개의 거대한 사진 부스를 설치했다. 현재 매일 약 1,000장에 달하는 사진이 이 사진 부스에서 나오고 있다. 이 사진 부스는 9월 3-11일 동안 운영될 예정이다. 팔레스타인과 이스라엘 사람들은 서로를 방문하고 개인적인 성명을 전달한 후 거대한 크기의 인물사진을 받을 수 있다. 이 인물사진은 단독으로 또는 집단의 일부로 자신이 원하는 곳에 붙일 수 있다.

Time is Now는 표현의 장애물을 허물고, 사람들이 자신의 목소리를 낼 수 있는 도구를 제공한다"라고 말했다.

아랍 세계를 재구성하고, 이스라엘 사회가 사회 정의를 촉구하는 교차로에 도달한 이스라엘/팔레스타인 상황 하에서 Time Is Now는 두 민족을 위한 두 국가라는 해결책이 실행을 기다리고 있으며, 평화와 번영 공유를 가져올 것으로 믿는 조용한 다수의 목소리에 귀를 기울이도록 한다.

JR은 "양측 모두 평화를 지지하는 사람들이 많으며, 젊은 층은 미래를 보장받기 위해서 앞으로 전진하기를 원한다는 사실을 모두에게 알리고자 한다"면서 "우리가 할 역할은 이스라엘과 팔레스타인에서 긍정적인 공적 시각 성명을 내는 것"이라고 언급했다.

이 프로젝트는 "Time Is Now, Yalla!"라고 불리는데, 그 이유는 팔레스타인 사람들과 이스라엘 사람들 모두 "가자"라는 뜻을 지닌 아랍어인 "Yalla!"를 쓰기 때문이다.

JR은 세상을 바꾸고자 하는 비범한 인물에게 수여되는 TED상을 받은 후 Inside Out Project를 구상했다. 그는 세상을 바꾸고자 하는 일념 하에 세계 최대의 국제적인 참여 예술 프로젝트를 시작했다. 그가 2011년 3월 자신의 일념을 표현한 후로 지금까지 브라질, 튀니지, 프랑스, 미국, 독일, 파키스탄, 일본, 뉴질랜드, 우루과이, 태국 등에서 40,000점이 넘는 인물사진들이 제공되었다.

Inside Out Project 소개

Inside Out Project는 개인의 정체성을 담은 메시지를 예술 작품으로 전환하는 대규모 참여 예술 프로젝트이다. 전 세계 사람들 누구나 흑백 인물사진을 통해서 알려지지 않은 이야기와 이미지를 발견하고, 표현하며, 공유할 수 있다. 디지털 방식으로 업로드된 이미지는 포스터로 제작된 다음 사진을 보낸 사람들에게 재전송되어, 지역 사회에 걸리게 된다. 개별 참여나 집단 참여 모두 환영한다. 고독한 사무실 창문에서부터 버려진 건물의 벽이나 관객석이 꽉 찬 경기장에 이르기까지 어디에서 포스터를 붙일 수 있다. 이렇게 붙여진 사진은 기록 및 저장되어 http://www.insideoutproject.net에서 온라인으로 볼 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

JR's Inside Out Project Invites Thousands of Israelis and Palestinians to Show Their Faces

- Time is Now, Yalla! - JR to Provide Photobooths for ALL to Take Photo and Paste the Streets

(PARIS, Sept. 8, 2011 AsiaNet=연합뉴스) Artist and TED Prize winner JR today unveiled Time is Now, Yalla! - part of his Inside Out Project in which people around the world stand for what they believe in by pasting giant black-and-white portraits on the walls and streets of their communities.

Time is Now, Yalla! is currently underway in Israel (Tel Aviv) and Palestine (Bethlehem and Ramallah). JR and his team have set up three giant photobooths, which runs September 3-11, turning out about 1,000 photos each day. Palestinians and Israelis are invited to visit and, in exchange for a personal statement, receive a large-format portrait they can paste wherever they wish - either on their own or as part of a group.

"When I first worked here on the Face2Face Project, I pasted portraits of Israelis and Palestinians doing the same jobs to show that, despite their differences, Palestinians and Israelis are similar enough to understand each other," said JR. "And then I came back in 2010 to set up the first tours allowing people to discover both Israel and Palestine during the same trip. I return now simply as the printer, giving people the photobooths for free so they can take their own portraits, share what they stand for, and paste the streets of their communities. Everyone can tell a story through art, and the Time is Now to break down barriers to expression and give people the tools to be seen and heard."

In the context of the Israeli/Palestinian situation reaching a crossroads - of a reshaping of the Arab world and of Israeli society urging for social justice - the Time Is Now to listen to the silent majority that believes the solution leading to 2 states for 2 peoples is waiting for implementation, and will bring peace and shared prosperity.

JR states: "We want to show that there is massive support for peace on both sides and that young people want to move forward, to secure their future. Our role is simply to create a positive public visual statement, in both Israel and Palestine ..."

The project is called "Time Is Now, Yalla!" because "Yalla!" is an Arabic word used by both Palestinians and Israelis to say "let's go."

JR created the Inside Out Project after he received the TED Prize - which grants one remarkable person a wish to change the world. With this wish, JR sought to unleash the largest global, participatory art project. Since he made his wish in March 2011, more than 40,000 people from Brazil, Tunisia, France, the US, Germany, Pakistan, Japan, New Zealand, Uruguay, Thailand and other countries have contributed their portraits.

Inside Out in Israel & Palestine: Time is Now, Yalla! is expected to be the single largest group action to date. Once the project is completed, a book will be published in Arabic, Hebrew, French and English to illustrate its impact. A short documentary will also be made by director Alastair Siddons, who has been following the Inside Out Project and already released a short film about Tunisia [http://www.youtube.com/theinsideoutchannel ].

"It is impossible not to be inspired by the images and stories emerging from JR's Inside Out Project," said TED Prize Director Amy Novogratz. "Too often positive stories get lost amidst conflict, and I believe Inside Out is chipping away at external perceptions and letting people show the world who they are and what they believe at their core. I have no doubt that Time is Now, Yalla! will give way to more beautiful images, powerful moments, and hopefully an opportunity for change."

About the Inside Out Project

InsideOut is a large-scale participatory art project that transforms messages of personal identity into pieces of artistic work. Everyone is challenged to use black and white photographic portraits to discover, reveal and share the untold stories and images of people around the world. These digitally uploaded images are made into posters and sent back to the project's co-creators, for them to exhibit in their own communities. People can participate as an individual or as part of a group. Posters can be placed anywhere, from a solitary image in an office window, to a wall of an abandoned building, or in a full stadium. These exhibitions will be documented, archived and made available online at http://www.insideoutproject.net.
