[해외논단] 오바마 비판서 인기

급진적인 사회주의 정책목표 폭로일자리·주택 등 빼앗는 오바마노믹스

마이클 새비지는 시의적절하고도 중요한 책을 썼다. 신랄한 비판으로 정평이 난 그의 라디오 토크쇼 '새비지 네이션'의 애청자는 1000만명을 넘는다. 지금 그는 버락 오바마 대통령을 상대로 정치적인 지하드, 즉 성전을 벌이고 있다.

"우리의 국경과 경제, 안보에 대한 오바마의 공격을 중지시키자"란 부제가 달린 그의 저서는 오바마의 급진적인 사회주의 정책 목표를 폭로할 목적을 지닌 성명서다. 새비지에 따르면, 자기도취적인 사춘기의 좌파인 대통령의 과대망상증과 거창한 계획이 전통적인 미국을 파괴하려고 위협한다. "오바마 대통령은 자신이 물려받은 귀중한 시계를 분해하는 파괴적인 아이와도 같다. 시계의 가치를 고려하지 않고 부속품을 사방에 흩어놓은 채 다시 조립하지 못하는 아이 같다."

새비지는 대통령을 '파괴자 오바마'라고 부른다. 대통령의 목표는 다문화적인 사회민주체제를 건설하기 위해 미국의 주권 및 자본주의를 해체하는 것이다. 필자는 오바마의 여러 정책이 비미국적이라고 폭로한다. 오바마는 국가 정체성의 중요성을 부정하는 미국 역사상 첫 번째 대통령이라는 것이다.

대통령은 눈에 핏발이 선 마르크스주의 학자와는 거리가 멀다고 필자는 경고한다. 대통령은 유럽식 유모국가를 만드는 의도적이고 체계적인 전략을 따르고 있다고 한다. 대통령은 단순하고 순진한 진보주의자가 아니라 '범레닌사상'을 따르는 혁명적 사회주의자다. 1917년 볼셰비키 혁명의 창설자 블라디미르 레닌과 마찬가지로 오바마는 국제 좌파이며, 보다 폭넓은 이념체제 속에 미국을 집어넣겠다는 꿈을 갖고 있다.

미국인들의 뜻에 반해 유럽식 정부 운영 건강보험제도를 오바마가 창설한 이유가 여기 있다. 그가 탄소세, 탄소 방출 상한 거래제도, 부유층에 대한 세금 인상, 자동차 및 금융 산업의 대규모 국유화, 막대한 정부예산지출, 연방정부의 낙태 지원에 열심인 까닭도 여기 있다. 그는 미국이 유럽의 복사판이 되기를 원한다.

대통령은 궁극적으로 유엔에 기반을 둔 세계 단일 국가를 신봉하는 초국가주의자라고 새비지는 확신한다. 자본주의와 민족국가 및 미국의 유대·기독교 전통은 역사의 잿더미 속에 버려야 한다는 것이 대통령의 생각이라고 새비지는 믿는다.

새비지는 대통령이 미국 중산층을 대대적으로 파괴한다고 폭로한다. 오바마의 세금 및 지출 정책은 가난한 사람들의 돈이 정부 지배층의 손안으로 흘러 들어가게 만든다는 것이다. 이런 오바마노믹스가 미국인들의 일자리와 주택 및 생계수단을 빼앗는다. 오바노믹스에 의해 미국인들은 2개 계층으로 나뉜다. 정부 지원에 의존하는 빈곤층과 새로운 지배층으로 나뉜다.

언론과 노조 및 할리우드의 동조 세력들과 더불어 오바마와 민주당은 권력 강화를 노린다. 그들은 동정심과 박애주의 정신에 따르는 것이 아니라 사회통제에 대한 고삐 풀린 욕망과 야심에 따라 행동한다.

새비지는 사회의 주류를 이루는 다문화 정통주의에 도전하는 것을 겁내지 않는 문화의 전사다. 그는 낙태에 반대한다. 다만 산모의 목숨이 위험한 경우는 예외를 인정한다. 그는 대규모 미군 병력을 배치하여 남부의 국경을 봉쇄하라고 요구한다. 폭력범죄로 유죄판결을 받은 모든 불법 이민자들을 국외로 추방할 것도 요구한다.

그는 영어를 미국의 공식 언어로 정해야 한다고 생각한다. 그는 서방세계가 과격파 이슬람과 생사의 싸움을 벌이고 있으며, 이 전쟁에서 이기기 위해 모든 수단을 동원해야 한다고 주장한다. 오늘의 신세계질서 속에서 새비지는 미국의 '언어와 국경 및 문화'를 수호하는 보기 드문 애국자다.

새비지는 하나님과 국가 및 가족을 옹호하는 보수파 전통주의자다. 무수한 인신공격에도 불구하고 그의 대중적 인기는 계속 치솟고 있다. 왜냐하면 새비지의 세계관이 미국을 위대한 국가로 만들었으며, 공화정치의 복원에 필수적이란 것을 많은 미국인들이 인식하기 때문이다.

Michael Savage has written a timely and important book. The fiery talk radio host, whose show, "The Savage Nation," boasts nearly 10 million weekly listeners, is on a political jihad against President Obama.

"Trickle Up Poverty: Stopping Obama's Attack on Our Borders, Economy and Security," published by Harper Collins, is a conservative cri de coeur - a passionate manifesto aimed at exposing Mr. Obama's radical socialist agenda. According to Mr. Savage, the president is a leftist adolescent, a narcissist whose megalomania and grand designs threaten to destroy traditional America: "President Obama is like a destructive child who takes apart a priceless watch that was carefully passed down to him," he writes. "Without regard for the value of what he holds, he recklessly scatters the pieces on the floor and then can't put them back together again."

Mr. Savage calls the president "Obama the Destroyer": his goal is to dismantle American sovereignty and capitalism in order to erect a multicultural social democracy. The author reveals that Mr. Obama's policies are fundamentally un-American; he is the first post-national leader in U.S. history.

Mr. Savage warns that, far from being a wild-eyed academic Marxist, the president is following a deliberate, systematic strategy of forging a European-style nanny state. He is not simply a naive liberal; rather, he is a revolutionary socialist pursuing "pan-Leninism." Like the founder of the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution, Vladimir Lenin, Mr. Obama is a man of the internationalist left. His dream is to subsume America into a larger ideological project.

This is why Mr. Obama passed - against the will of the American people - European-style, government-run health care. It is why he zealously supports carbon taxes, cap-and-trade legislation, massive income-tax increases on the wealthy, nationalizing the automakers and much of the financial sector, huge spending programs and the federal funding of abortion. He wants America to become a carbon copy of Europe. In fact, Mr. Savage is convinced that the president is a progressive transnationalist, who ultimately believes in one-world government based in the United Nations. Capitalism, the nation-state and America's Judeo-Christian heritage must therefore all be swept into the ash heap of history.

Mr. Savage reveals that Mr. Obama is decimating the middle class. His tax-and-spend policies are creating "trickle up poverty" - millions of Americans are losing their jobs, homes and livelihoods because of Obamanomics. America is becoming a two-tiered society marked by the poor who are made dependent upon government handouts and the new ruling class. Mr. Obama and the Democrats - along with their liberal allies in the media, unions and Hollywood - seek to consolidate power. They are not animated by compassion or altruism, but ambition - raw, unbridled lust for social control.

Mr. Savage's one-nation conservatism does not play well with many in the media - even on the right. He has been marginalized for years, denounced by many liberals and conservatives as a right-wing yahoo, an irresponsible bomb thrower. His real crime, however, is that although he is a conservative, he is also a genuine maverick who wants no part of the decrepit - and venal - GOP establishment. As Mr. Savage puts it, Republicans "raped Lady Liberty for eight years" during the administration of George W. Bush. In short, he is not a lapdog for the GOP.

There is nothing "respectable" or safe about his politics. He is a culture warrior, who is not afraid to challenge the prevailing secular multicultural orthodoxy. He opposes abortion - except in cases where the life of the mother is threatened. He calls for closing the southern border by deploying thousands of U.S. troops. He wants to deport all illegal immigrants convicted of violent crimes. He believes English should be the country's official language. He argues that the West is in a life-and-death struggle with radical Islam and that all methods to win the war - including profiling - must be used. In short, Mr. Savage is a rarity in today's New World Order: a flinty nationalist who champions "language, borders and culture."

He is willing to say publicly what many conservatives will only whisper in private. This is why he is adored by his fans - and despised by his enemies. He is a man of another generation and another time. "The Savage Nation" is one of the last redoubts of free speech in the media unpolluted by political correctness.

Mr. Savage is unique among major conservative radio hosts. He is not a pro-Republican corporatist, nor is he a libertarian materialist obsessed with profit and porn, and neither is he an open-borders free-trader. Instead, he is a conservative traditionalist, who champions God, country and family. His popularity continues to soar, despite relentless smear campaigns, because many Americans recognize that this is the worldview that made our nation great and is essential to restoring the Republic.
