Dekker's father Dick Decker announced 12 March 2010 that his 14-year-old daughter would set sail for a single-handed circumnavigation of the world from Zeeland in July. She would be the youngest- ever person to sail non stop around the world. The Dutch authorities have so far denied Dekker permission to set sail claiming she was too young for such an undertaking.
