The three day Loy Krathong festival culminates 02 November in the full moon night of the 12th lunar month on the Buddhist calendar and is celebrated with fervour in the ancient capital. Loy Krathong is to give thanks to the replenishing rainy season when banana leaf floats are laden with flowers, candles and incense and a piece of your hair or nail, which are cast on water all across the Thai Kingdom, in thanks to the water goddess Phra Mae Kong Ka and wishes for good fortune in the year to come.
